The moraine dam of the Dig Tsho was breached in 1985. Before rupture, this proglacial lake contained 67.5 million of cubic meters.
An ice avalanche landed in the lake and triggered a 4 to 6 meters high wave which provoked the rupture of the dam. The breach was 20 m high and 60 m wide.
Following the GLOF, the debris flow with and estimated speed of 4 to 5 m/s caused the death of three people, the destruction of about 30 houses and 15 bridges, a hydropower station and many fields.
